Typically molded into a ball shape and often covered in a red or yellow wax rind. Its flavor is mild and slightly nutty, with a gentle saltiness, and it becomes sharper as it ages. The wax coating protects the cheese and helps preserve its freshness. Mild and subtly salty, Edam's smooth and creamy texture lends itself well to both snacking and melting in various dishes.

Once opened, wrap the cheese in wax paper or cheese paper, followed by a loose plastic wrap or aluminum foil to maintain freshness while allowing it to breathe. Avoid airtight containers that can trap moisture.
