In French, "Baguette" means stick or chopstick. That name is derived from their elongated shape.
Longbeards have been made in France since the time of King Louis XIV. History does not specify the exact origin of the Baguette but it is believed that it was first produced in the 18th century.
The French eat bread regularly 3 meals a day including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Traditional French Baguettes are handmade from natural yeast and without any additives, always passed down by traditional bakers in secret through generations to create the most original flavor. In France, we can easily see many bakeries, called "Boulangerie".
Why does Classic Fine Foods say Baguette is an “equal bread”?
Because during the French Revolution in 1789, many people were starving due to a lack of grain and bread, recognizing the problem that the Government decreed that only "equal bread” could be produced for both the rich and poor people, they were made from whole wheat flour and rye – the cheap flour at that moment (at that time white flour was a luxury only catered to
the upper class).
